The print had been loaned to a society in New Zealand and can't be returned in time.
So a substitute film had to be found.
And rising from the western dust is........”Blossoms in the Dust”!
This is a lovely 1941 Technicolor film based on a true story.
It tells of Edna Glagney who established a home for unwanted children.
"There are no illegitimate children, only illegitimate parents" says
Greer Garson, in this wonderful movie.

After sending his wife and son to Maine to escape the sweltering summer heat of New York City, 38- year old Richard Sherman meets a 22-year-old blonde television commercial spokesmodel, who is renting the apartment directly above him.
Despite recent paranoia about becoming unfaithful (he is reading a book his company is going to publish about a "7-Year Itch"; which claims a significant proportion of men have extra-marital affairs after seven years of marriage) Richard invites the girl for a drink after she accidentally knocks over a tomato plant from the balcony above and almost hits him. He fantasizes in hilarious scenes of himself seducing the woman as well as thinking about his wife having an affair on her retreat with their neighbour.

Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow
Crowlands Hall, Box Office open from 6.30pm
7.30pm Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow - Sophia Loren
A
n Italian/French co-production made in 1963, in colour & CinemaScope.
Stories about three very different women and the men they attract. Adelina sells black-market cigarettes in Naples, is married to the unemployed Carmine, and faces a jail sentence. She can avoid it as long as she's pregnant. Several years and seven children later, Carmine is exhausted, so jail looks inescapable, as does her contempt for Carmine.
In Milan, Anna drives a Rolls, is bored, and picks up a writer. She talks dreamily of running off with him until he dents her car; that gets her emotional attention.
Mara, a Roman call girl, turns the head of a naive seminarian, prompting a run-in with his granny and a vow of abstinence. Mara's fizzy lover from Bologna grows impatient.
Directed by Vittorio de Sica & starring Marcello Mastroianni & Sophia Loren. Judith Crist (the famous film critic) says,”One begins to see, amid the sunsets & sunrises & Roman rooftops, the sheer venality of the creation, the cynical circus thrust upon us on the assumption that breasts & bodies & fornication are all that these leading lights of the Italian cinema need to provide to keep us from baying at the moon”. (Makes me want to see it – Ed.)
Oscar for best foreign language film. 4* This is a comedy/romance & is rated PG.
Sophia & Marcello give superb performances & is certainly a good way to spend a summer's evening.
You will be seeing a very good print on film! Something to ponder – which committee member is the dead spit of Marcello?
Come dressed with an Italian theme. There is a prize.
